The attendees at Taylor Swiftโs Eras Tour in London on June 21 included some royal fans.
The Prince of Wales and his children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, watched the show at Wembley Stadium during the first night of the tour stop.
William, George and Charlotte snapped a candid selfie with the pop star backstage. The candid photo, shared on the Prince and Princess of Walesโ official Instagram account,ย
shows Swift beaming alongside the three royals as she captures the moment. The caption read, โThank you @taylorswift for a great evening! #LondonTSTheErasTour.โ
The concert doubled as a birthday celebration for William, who turned 42 on Friday.
On her own Instagram account, Swift posted a photo featuring herself posing with William, George, Charlotte and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
The Princess of Wales, 42, has remained largely out of the public eye in recent months as she continues her cancer treatment.ย
She made a special appearance on June 15 at Trooping the Colour, the annual celebration of King Charlesโ birthday, marking her first public outing with the royals since Christmas. However, the event did not signal a return to public life, with future engagements depending on when she feels able and under the guidance of her medical team.
Prince Williamโs sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, attended Swiftโs August 2023 tour stop in Los Angeles.
Swift, 34, was welcomed to London by the royal guard earlier on June 21 when the band played โShake It Offโ in front of Buckingham Palace.
โCanโt stop, wonโt stop groovinโ๐ซก๐ฅ๐บ,โ the royal family captioned a video of the performance on social media.
Prince William has previously connected with Swift โ in fact, heโs put on a little performance with her! Back in 2013, the royal was led to the stage by Swift during a Centrepoint charity event at Kensington Palace to join Jon Bon Jovi for a rendition of โLivinโ on a Prayer.โ โ The candid moment was described by Williamโs aides at the time as completely โoff the cuff.โ
Eight years later, Prince William recalled how the memorable moment came to be on an episode of Apple Fitness+โs Time to Walk series.
โSo, around about โ it must be nearly 10 years ago now โ I canโt believe Iโm actually telling this story,โ Prince William started. โI went to a charity fundraising gala for Centrepoint, which is a young homeless charity that I am very fond of and have supported for many years. Itโs an annual fundraiser, and I turn up, and Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift are at the event, which nearly knocked me off my feet as well.โ
โWhen I sat down to watch Jon Bon Jovi do his performance, I thought, โThatโs it. My job is done. Iโll get a dinner in a minute, and I might be able to have a chat to some people, and, you know, Iโm off-duty a little bit now.โ Little did I think what was going to happen next,โ he continued. โIโm sat next to Taylor Swift. Sheโs on my left. And after Jon does his first song, thereโs a pause and she turns to me. She puts her hand on my arm, looks me in the eye, and says, โCome on, William. Letโs go and sing.โ โ
โTo this day, I still do not know what came over me,โ William said. โHonestly, even now, Iโm cringing at what happened next, and I donโt understand why I gave in. But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, โCome with meโฆโ I got up like a puppy and went, โYeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. Iโll follow you.โ โ
The Prince of Wales made his admiration for Swift known again at the 2023 Tusk Conservation Awards. According to Hello! magazine, the royal referred to the pop star while speaking with rocker Ronnie Wood about The Rolling Stones.
โWe were talking about the tour and I said, โCome on, youโve got to come out on tour,โ and we were talking about the new album and everything,โ Wood said, according to Hello! โWilliam said [he would] if we could get Taylor Swift there.โ
The guitarist reportedly told William that the โFearlessโ singer had previously performed with his bandmate Mick Jagger, to which the royal replied, โIโm there then.โ
